This past month, Carl Otto, along with five other Diventures dive pros headed to Pennyroyal scuba center in Kentucky to complete their instructor evaluations.
In 2018, Carl Otto and his sons Andrew and Travis became certified scuba divers. It was something Carl had wanted to do for quite some time but never followed through. When he got certified, he thought it would be a fun activity he and his sons could do a couple of times a year.
Carl’s first trip was to Bonaire in 2019, then a trip to the Bahamas followed by a trip to Roatan. In 2020, Diventures North Liberty hosted a Pro Night. Carl attended just to see what it took to become an instructor. Soon he completed his first course “Science of Diving” with assistant instructor trainer Joe Fuller.
Last year, Carl became a divemaster and then an assistant instructor. He has come a long way in a very short period and isn’t ready to stop there.
This past month, Carl, along with five other Diventures dive pros headed to Pennyroyal scuba center in Kentucky to complete their instructor evaluations.
“There are so many people that have made an impact on my journey,” Carl said. “Thank you, Will Andersen, for answering all my questions during the week, making sure I had everything I needed for my presentation, and showing me what I needed to know about the pool. Don Peterson, thanks for everything. From calming our nerves on Friday night, to the pointers on handling difficult situations, to the stories at dinner on Saturday. It was truly a pleasure to be evaluated by you and look forward to our paths crossing again. Finally, thanks to my fellow instructors, Allen Dobson, Chris True, Ethan Reynolds, Joshua Rice, and Nathan Parcell. The five of you made it a memorable weekend. All of you treated me as one of your own. I wish you all success as instructors and look forward to our paths crossing again.”
